''That which rightfully attracts esteem, respect, or consideration; self-respect; dignity; courage; fidelity; especially, excellence of character; high moral worth.'' - Milton

Most of us were taught as children to honor, unconditionally, our Mothers, Fathers and country. This was definitely instilled in my siblings and me when we were growing up and has been passed down to their children. This is why I like to create jewelry that reflects the honor I want to convey.

Currently my nephew, Sonny, is serving in the US Navy assigned to the SEALs program. It was a really hard road training for this esteemed program, but he completed the training enduring physically challenging situations most of us would not even dream about. He's also been promoted a couple of times in the 4-1/2 years of his tour. So, I would like to dedicate my latest jewelry design that I have named ''Honor'' to Sonny. It features the patriotic red, white and blue colors reflective of the national flag of the USA. Along with a US flag pin, there are star drops featuring our national colors dangling from the pin back. They are meant to represent independence; they are grouped together yet dangle independently.

My oldest brother, Tony, was also in the Navy. Tony spent most of his tour of duty assigned to various submarines working on highly classified missions that he couldn't even tell his family about. We knew they were very dangerous missions, and that he was not allowed to talk about them, so we never asked him about what he did. I was, and still am, so very proud of my brother for his accomplishments in the US Navy and for being a warm and caring mentor to me. In the late summer of 1990 Tony suddenly died at the age of 32. I think about him and miss him every day. I love that my nephew Sonny honors his uncle Tony's memory by serving his country in the US Navy as well.

Both my Mother and Father are deceased now. In their honor, and memory, I have written articles (B94D and C41X) that are published on the Fire Mountain Gems and Beads website articles page. Please take a few minutes to read these articles about some really special people.

I believe it is important to have those that you honor in your life. They motivate us to live better, more meaningful lives, as well as me to create more meaningful jewelry designs.
