I would like to knot some gemstone beads. Is a bead tip sturdy enough to hold the heavier gemstone rounds and nuggets? What are the options for attaching a clasp if a bead tip is not used? Can a knotted strand be attached to chain?

Knotting a gemstone necklace is the same process as knotting a pearl necklace, so you have a lot of choices. And attaching a length of knotted gemstones to a length of chain is definitely an option.

If you want to knot a continuous (or endless) necklace, you can view the ''Endless Necklace'' illustrated instructions which will help you through the process. Don't forget to add a drop of glue to secure your knots when you finish!

If you want to use a clasp in your knotted necklace, the handy Bead Knotter™ or the ''Japanese Bead Knotting'' technique are great places to start. They will guide you through the process of attaching the thread directly to the clasp or to jump rings.

If you want to protect the thread from direct contact with the clasp or chain ends, I recommend using French wire or bullion and finishing with a knot. Or you can knot the ends and slip them inside regular bead tips or Hot Tips® designer bead tips and attach them to the length of chain with heavy-gauge jump rings.
